The Consort Sings The Praises of Red Plaid

Hello-hello, all.  The Consort here gliding effortlessly mikeside to confuse you while The (very lovely and extremely talented) Princess warms her tootsies by the fire.  We are in the grips of some very cold weather.  In fact, the weather weenies have named it a “Polar Vortex”.  That makes it extra-cold, don’t you think?  Our thoughts and prayers are with the folks getting blasted by snow and bitter cold today in the Northeast.  We have friends and family in the path of this latest winter extravaganza and hope all the best for them.  All this cold weather makes me think of plaid. Red plaid. It’s the wonder pattern of the our generation.  Let’s explore the many uses of this marvel of fashion, shall we?

Bonobos Red Plaid Sportcoat

The good folks at Bonobos calls this their “Drunken Uncle Jacket” and who am I to dispute that?  It’s 100% wool and 150% awesome. Wear this jacket and be the guy who polishes off the Wild Turkey and cocktail sausages at your next family party.  Trust me: they’ll thank you for being fashion-forward.  Bonus – the jacket is on sale.  And why wouldn’t it be?

Red Plaid Formal Jacket

Perhaps the event demands more than a sport coat.  That’s when you unleash this subtle beauty.  A red plaid tuxedo jacket is just what you need for any black tie occasion.  And this just gets better and better.  This jacket can be custom made for you by these folks for a mere $90.  What could possibly go wrong?  I’m not sure what the material is but I’m not sure I’d want to be standing near any open flames while wearing the jacket.

Red Plaid Varsity Jacket

Then there is the Forever 21 crowd embracing (gingerly, at best) the red plaid.  Maybe I’m showing my age but I earned a varsity jacket while I was in school.  Thanks to the Forever 21 people you too can look like you are on the varsity team.  Yeah!  Everyone gets a ribbon!  Truthfully, this mash-up of tennis sweater and lumber camp might be an acquired taste.  Although it’s perfect for cutting lumber and then smashing some forehands.  Perhaps that explains why it’s on sale.

Screen Shot 2014-01-22 at 3.44.25 PM

In my mind I’m imagining a camp full of lumberjacks all dressed in red plaid boxer shorts.  Actually, that statement came out wrong.  I’m not imagining that at all and never could.  I applaud the man who boldly sports these plaid boxers.  He’s making a fashion statement and I appreciate that.  Perhaps his workplace dress code does not endorse red plaid.  But he’s a rebel and waves his red plaid proudly, if only undercover.

As you can see the opportunities are endless when you embrace the magic that is red plaid.  Make your own statement and add some color to this dreary winter weather.  The Princess will return shortly and I thank you for your patience while I wandered around in my head.  Remember to take care of your waitperson tonight – they’re working hard for you.  Good night, all!

Jack Rogers Plans Huge Expansion

Hello-Hello everyone!

We start with news about a favored brand that is expanding their product offerings. Serious expansion. We’re talking about Jack Rogers, makers of the ubiquitous Navajo sandal seen below.

PHOTO: Thomas Iannaccone/WWD

PHOTO: Thomas Iannaccone/WWD

For those not familiar with the footwear, here is a brief explainer from this story in WWD:

“In resort towns like East Hampton and Nantucket, the Jack Rogers Navajo sandal has for decades been as much a part of the scene as tennis skirts and tunics. In the Sixties, the sandal was popularized by Jackie Kennedy.”

Those paying close attention to that photo probably already noticed something else: the new Jack Rogers slim ballet flat. Below we see another version of their new flat.

PHOTO: Thomas Iannacone/WWD

PHOTO: Thomas Iannaccone/WWD

But new footwear isn’t the only thing on the drawing board for the company.  This story from Women’s Wear Daily (subscription req’d.) offers more information about plans for the Jack Rogers brand:

“…sportswear, dresses, handbags, shoes, boots and a wider selection of sandals, and the first Jack Rogers retail stores, for the upcoming resort and spring seasons.”

The new merchandise will be available at Nordstrom, Lord & Taylor, along with 400 independent boutiques already selling the brand; the plan is to expand this footprint to include:

“…Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and other stores. Trousers, priced at retail at $170; cotton sundresses, $168 to $200; woven dress shirts, $148, and closed-toe shoes, generally $129 to $189, are among the items being offered. There will be also be some handmade, detailed ballet flats and items in more expensive skins, priced at $225. Shorts, T-shirts, purses, totes, clutches, jelly sandals, driving shoes, boots and moccasins are also being designed.”

On a personal level this is splendid news. But from a business perspective we are reminded of many recent brand extensions that have not fared well, many with disastrous results. The failed Ruehl stores Abercrombie opened so quickly come to mind, as do the continuing rumors that Crocs, following explosive growth, could soon file bankruptcy. Even smaller efforts like the Oilily expansion into the US was not successful.

However, there are several executives at Jack Rogers who possess solid resumes with experience at firms like Polo Ralph Lauren, Gap and Tory Burch. This leads us to hope that the broad brand extensions of the kind detailed above prove to be the exception, rather than the rule.  When we see the word ‘jelly sandals’ included in the new product line we cringe more than just a little.

Wondering where the new Jack Rogers stores might be going…?

“…. the first expected to open around February 2010 in Manhattan, followed by units in the Hamptons, and Palm Beach or Bal Harbour, Fla.”

We know quite a few folks who will be pleased with this news. Are you excited by the news? And thoughts on Jack Rogers Jellies?

Sales and Savings of a Preptastic Kind

Hello-Hello, we have a weekend edition today because of all the Sales and Savings opportunities we feel compelled to share!

b2cda06eb765664a71c4728e3e477db1

The Land of Nod almost never disappoints, and their Summer Sale offers quite a bit of merchandise, like the Everything’s Coming Up Roses bedding.

3001125_RosesBedding_S208

The offerings at Barneys continue apace with their Clearance Sale. (That still sounds so odd, saying ‘Barneys’ and Clearance Sale’ in the same breath, let alone the same sentence.)

main-1

If in need of cosmetics, all of the Vincent Longo appears to be discounted by at least 50%.

Kate Spade is taking an additional 25% off all sale items.

That means the hibiscus island baby stevie will be approximately $160; it was originally priced at $425.

Seen in the pink and poppy colorway, the bag evidently has 14-karat gold plated hardware. Honestly. We were about to say this might serve us very well for today’s Pretty in Pink.  Scratch that. (The sound you just heard? TP’s mind slamming shut.)

The sale at Kate Spade runs through the 14th.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The Designer Sale at Saks ends this Sunday night, the 12th.

23_FINAL_SALE_WOMEN2

There is a substantial amount of merchandise now discounted at the upscale retailer. Frankly, some of it deserves to be on sale. For your perusal, Exhibit A:

Burberry at Saks

Burberry at Saks

The Transparent Burberry Rain Slicker was originally $695. It is now being sold for $417. There seems to be a sufficient supply of these on hand from what we can ascertain. Indeed.

The Lilly Pulitzer Shandy Top initially selling at $198, the top is now $118.

0410213859003R_180x240

As much as we love this particular Lilly print, the ruffles make the top a little frou-frou for us, but it will be darling on most readers, we just know that for a fact.

Also at Saks, the Ralph Lauren Infant Patchwork Jumper in a madras we simply adore.

0406512864343R__ASTL_300x400

The jumper (shown with a sweet little blouse) is now $22.45, the original price was $65.

BTW, a good part of the Sale merchandise at the Polo Ralph Lauren online shop is also reduced an additional 25%  making a visit there worth the investment of time should one be in need of apparel, accessories, or home goods.  For example, the Large Equestrian Canvas Tote is now$299.

pPOLO2-5717732_alternate1_v330

The original selling price was $695.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Garnet Hill‘s sale runs through August 4th, so there is still a little time to look around.

main_a

The online and catalog retailer has Hanky Panky unmentionables on sale, including the Lace Bralette.

center_a

This item is selling for $29, it is usually $45.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Many other retailers not shown here are offering substantial discounts. Brooks Brothers, is doing their Annual Sale, there is quite a bit of Black Fleece merchandise marked down. J. Crew and Tommy Hilfiger, and J. McLaughlin continue their sales as well.

We leave you another brand we are generally fond of, Lacoste, and their Carnaby Sneaker for Toddler, Little Kid & Big Kid on sale at Nordstrom.

_5816700

This cutie is discounted in all sizes.  And don’t forget the Nordie’s Anniversay Sale beginning next week.

Enjoy!

Major Papers Talk Preppy Style

Hello-Hello and happy day to everyone!

We’ll jump right in today with a few things we never seem to fit in our daily posts, despite the fact we start out planning to include them every. single. day.  We are so slow in sharing them many readers are likely to have already seen them, yikes! Here they are in completely random order:

1) The Times had an outstanding story from David Colman a few weeks back in their Dress Codes series, “The All-American Back from Japan,” examining contemporary preppy style.  A sample from the article:

“There is madras everything, button-downs everywhere. Nantucket reds — washed-out pink pants — are the new khakis; Sperry Top-Siders are more common on roof decks than top decks; and the Polo pony and the Lacoste crocodile are now but two of the critters in a zoo of polo shirt insignia.”

The story is accompanied by a companion slide show, “Dress Codes: The Preppy Look” with excellent photos from Dean Isidro. Below, the gentleman wears Benjamin Bixby, Lacoste, Trovata, Brooks Brothers Black Fleece, Marc by Marc Jacobs.

PHOTO: Dean Isidro/NY Times

The article looks at the history of ‘preppy fashion’ in the US (or more appropriately, that particular moniker for the style) as well as what Mr. Colman refers to as “…the Japanese penchant for Americana…”.

Some of the brands cited in the story and slide show are definitely not “your Father’s preppy style,” although again, TP’s family never referred to it this way. If asked and forced to describe the look TQM probably would have merely said it was conservative or classic, perhaps being so bold as to inquire  “why do you ask?” as it wasn’t something one consciously thought of or needed to discuss. The only possible exception might be if one the children dared desire something out-of-the-norm, in the “no, no, that’s not something we wear” category. How did your family refer to their clothing style? Or did they?

We highly recommend the story and slide show, they are great fun and offer a slew of new brands, some of which you have seen showcased in this space, such as Band of Outsiders, and others we probably won’t be sporting.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

2) Also on the radar for quite some time, this story from the Times of London’s online site:

Preppy power

From twinsets and pearls to cashmere hoodies — new fashion tribes are taking their lead from the Sloanes

The story is another fun read, offering a slightly different perspective as it originates from the far side of the pond.

Yet rapidly growing numbers of people are embracing the preppy look — whether it’s stripy boat-neck T-shirts, argyle sweaters, brogues or cotton pea coats. Look closely and you’ll see preppy is having a makeover right under our noses.”

The story breaks the preppy looks into five different styles, including Euro Preppy, Fashion Preppy and Power Preppy.  Prince Harry’s former flame, Chelsea Davy, is pictured as an example of Public School Preppy:

PHOTO: Antony Jones/UK Press/PA Photos

A reminder that in the UK ‘public schools’ are actually what we call private schools here in the States, for example, Miss Porter’s or Choate would be called ‘public schools’ in England.

The article also has scads more details with the writer’s ideas on what brands specific prep types would wear, their ‘best looks’ as well as “A Look Too Far,” our favorite sub-category.  Prince William’s girlfriend Kate Middleton is classified as a Euro Preppy, although the story notes:

“To be fair, Kate is more neo-Sloane ranger, but, for obvious reasons, the Euro preppy holds her in high esteem.”

As to the paper’s suggestions of a Power Preppy, they include First Lady Michelle Obama in this group. Rather than bore you with more recitation of the article’s content we suggest one toddle on over and personally read the story, we highly recommend it. A visit to the fabulous Europa Fox is also likely to provide far better insight than anything we offer.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

True Chanel addicts with pin money (okay, investment quality pins) to spare will be pleased to learn of the 1980′s and early 90′s Chanel jewelry and accessories now being offered at high-end vintage retailer Resurrection.  Some pieces serve to remind us that the development of LogoPhobia is not merely in reaction to recent creations:

TP is ever-so-excited to learn one of our favorite spots for retail therapy is undergoing a bit of a lift, so to speak.  Fashion Island in Newport Beach (CA) is going to have some work done, adding wonderful stores like Nordstrom to the roster of existing shops, including Neiman’s, Saks, and Bloomies.  Below, an artist’s sketch of the ‘new and improved’ Fashion Island.

The LA Times has the full story.

We leave you with some of the soon-to-be-out, or already available magazines one will spot at the local newsstand:

There are reports of at least two west coast memorial services, one on July 3rd, the other July 10th.

Barbie Gets a Goyard!

Hello-Hello and happy first week of March! Yippee-skippee, spring is on its way!

First off we must thank everyone who sent lovely little notes in light of our maudlin and morose post on Friday, that is more than kind of you. We are done moping and moving on to more normal bloggage here at the Prepatorium, beginning with Goyard;  it’s no secret TP loves hers, that is common knowledge.  Now Barbie is celebrating her 50th Birthday Anniversary with her own trunk from the luxury leather-goods maker.

Courtesy Colette

She is also going to be sporting some new duds and accessories.

Courtesy Colette

Über-cool French retailer Colette is celebrating Barbie’s big year with almost a month of special events at its store.  Special window displays, cosmetics by Stila and other goodies await shoppers in honor of the big event.

Also on display, special screen prints created from photographs that designer Karl Lagerfeld shot. A touch of Lagerfeld’s Chanel aesthetic is obvious in many of the looks. A model portrayed Ken for the photos, all of them striking.

And while not a huge Lagerfeld fan, his photos of Barbie and her beau are fun and elegant.

In other Goyard news, are we the only ones on the planet unaware that the legendary luggage-maker opened a store last year specializing in items for our four-legged family members?

The shop is located on rue Faubourg Saint-Honoré, almost directly across from the Goyard Mother Ship, so to speak. C’est magnifique, oui?

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

A few SOTTs to share this afternoon:

  • J. Crew announced announced it eliminated almost 100 jobs from its payroll, a result of the economy
  • Nordstrom is planning on lowering its “average price” on merchandise according to a company official speaking to the Heard on the Runway blog

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Speaking of Nordstrom, on Saturday we popped in to see our oh-so-wonderful Bobbi Brown cosmetics doll, Miss Hannah, who is as sweet as they come. Whilst out and about we noticed a few things, like the remarkable diminution in inventory the store is carrying, just as they said would be the case.  And it makes perfect sense IOHO – why be forced to paw through overflowing racks stuffed so full of merchandise one can’t even get a look at the garments for sale? That became more than tedious over the last several years.

And then the most amazing sight of all occurred when we strolled over to L & T (Lord & Taylor), up on the second floor, where we were almost rammed by a woman with one of these…

Except hers had screening or mesh on the sides. You know where this is going, don’t you? Yep.

The careening pet stroller had not one, but two dogs inside.  Those who follow us on Twitter saw us describe them as weaselly little animals when we first mentioned the incident, and we stand by the description. Help The Princess understand here: why must one torment their animals by taking them to a crowded shopping mall on a Saturday?! We are more than baffled by this one, and have no problem placing it in the “It’s Just Not Done” category.  Harrumph.

On that bemused note we say ‘bye until next time!

Finally: Sasha and Malia Obama Election Night Dress Info

Hello-Hello!

Before we say anything, let us publicly thank Miss Fabulous herself, Kate at the Nautical by Nature blog for tipping us on where to get the scooop about those darling dresses worn by Malia and Sasha Obama on election night.  Below, a photo of the future First Family on Tuesday night.

Joe Raedle/Getty

Joe Raedle/Getty

As we reported on Thursday, (although at that time we were not entirely convinced it was actually the same dress), the bright red dress worn by Malia Obama is by Biscotti, Inc. The full name of the item is the Biscotti Girls Precious Jewels Christmas Party Dress with Bubble Hem.

PHOTO

PHOTO

According to this report on the Journal’s Fashion Blog, Biscotti has been inundated with requests from buyers:

“Buyers really, really wanted it. We found out we had more of the fabric so we’re quickly producing more,” said Bernadette Reiss, Biscotti’s co-owner. The label says it has enough fabric to make 150 to 200 more pieces.

Here is the Nordstrom photo, followed by a tight shot of the belt that comes with the dress, although Malia opted for a more understated belt.

The dress is made in Vietnam, and Cheryl Lu-Lien Tan’s story notes that this additional run now being manufactured should be available in stores in approximately three weeks.

The story reports that an Obama family spokesperson says the dress was purchased at Nordstrom, which is where we originally showed the item, available at $110.  Best Dressed Child also shows the dress, but at $104. While this style does appear to be sold out/selling out fast, there are a number of *very* similar styles by Biscotti, including this one; the primary difference is in the sleeves and the big bow in the back. We show the dress as available at ‘Shop Girl Super Chic Boutique‘.

..

Here is one of the matching cardigans or shrugs in the Biscotti Girls Precious Jewels Christmas Party group.

We now move on to the incredibly sweet party frock with the giant bow on the front worn by Sasha Obama. We have deliberately kept the photo almost full-size to better show the dress.

Jim Bourg

PHOTO: Jim Bourg

It turns out the dress is made by Gerson & Gerson, Inc., according to another story on the Journal’s fashion blog.  The company’s headquarters and showroom are in New York; their apparel is made under the Iris & Ivy label as well as the Bonnie Jean name.

“… the company has nevertheless sold out of the $72 dress that it makes under the Iris & Ivy children’s label and sells at retailers like Nordstrom and Dillard’s.”

Jason Reed/Reuters

PHOTO: Jason Reed/Reuters

Here is a photo from the Gerson & Gerson website; the URL may also show up in your browser as “Bonnie Jean.”  Gerson is the parent company to that line.

pictures-2532

Ms. Tan’s story includes company President Barbara Zein’s plans for exploiting the Sasha Obama connection to their dress:

“Ms. Zein already has plans to further capitalize on the Obama connection. “We’re bringing back the style immediately in a different fabrication,” says Ms. Zein, who adds that the pieces will probably be in stores by spring. To cement the link to the new First Family, she’s given the style a name: Sasha.”

TP believes there is a very fine line between smart, aggressive marketing and the boundaries of good taste. Ms. Zein’s toe just went over it.

Above all, the Obama children looked beautiful and were charming throughout the evening. Below, a behind the scenes photo shows Sasha giving big sister Malia a little kiss as Mom watches.

Another tidbit from Tuesday night we hadn’t shared (for space considerations) is the Vogue magazine chatter. Below, a fun shot of Vogue magazine’s editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley, via Fashion Week Daily’s story. TP loved reading this if only for the knowledge she was not hallucinogenic Tuesday evening when watching the events in Grant Park.

Fashion Week Daily

Fashion Week Daily

Mr. Talley and Vogue Editor Anna Wintour hosted numerous fund-raising parties on behalf of the Obama-Biden ticket.  As NY Magazine‘s wonderful blog The Cut reported in June :

“Rumor has it André Leon Talley is just dying to get his hands on Michelle Obama. The New York Post reports he wants to style her, like he did Venus Williams for the Costume Institute gala or Jennifer Hudson at the 2007 Oscars. Only ALT’s not always spot-on with his wardrobe choices; many critics flat-out hated the gold python bolero jacket Hudson wore at said Oscars. And some Democrats are a wee bit nervous that Talley might lead Obama to fashion faux pas–dom as well. (Since when did these politicos become so fashion-conscious?)”

But the real chatter involves Ms. Obama appearing on Vogue’s cover, a tradition for First Ladies, although not always immediately following the elction. Another celebrity in the VIP area of Chicago’s Grant Park Tuesday was super-celebrity Oprah Winfrey.

We have to post this photo collage because we just didn’t realize all the magazine covers featuring the President-elect prior to the election.

We have yet to obtain positive confirmation that Cassandra Bromfield has been selected to create Michelle Obama’s gown for the Inaugural Balls, or that she is designing daywear for the other events on January 20th. Below, another image

The Hose Knows, Thomas Pink Loves the Ladies & More

Good Monday to all…we trust everyone enjoyed a pleasant weekend. Or, are a few others struggling with a touch of that flat, blah feeling…..? We hope not. The Princess openly admits to being afflicted with more than a touch of that syndrome, else this particular post might have been done in less than the current eight nine ten hours (and counting) we have been toiling away at it. That is more or less, with the emphasis most decidedly on more. (Well… surely we weren’t the only people in the western hemisphere who watched Smackdown Torrey Pines are we…? Waaahhh!!)

In an effort to perk things up a bit, there is nice news for a young designer that is also delightful news for those of us loving the lush-but-limited womenswear offerings from Thomas Pink: we’ll be seeing a new collection from designer Richard Nicoll, considered by some to be the “king of the blouse,” an appropriate moniker considering Pink’s rich heritage. The Richard Nicoll for Pink collection will include shirts and blouses as well as skirts and dresses. We share a small sample above; look for the collection at the end of August. Of course, since we are discussing a retailer, and with economic realities being what they are, we feel compelled to advise you of the ongoing SALE at Pink. (Although the offerings are quite limited, as in extremely limited: four polo shirts at last glance, but because sharing *is* caring…you know the rest.)

Now before we talk any more at all about shopping or any other frivolities, here is a troubling topic. And it is one that has The Princess more than a little mystified. It is a sensitive topic and one most certainly influenced by one’s generational status. And… are you sitting down? (You may want to have Nanny take the children outside.) Now we learn that Her Princess-ness is officially a Fashion Criminal. Pourquoi? The Hose Knows. The issue is addressed in a recent article in the Journal:

Yet the transition has highlighted a generational divide. For women who entered the work force before the 1990s, hose were considered as necessary as underwear. But many twentysomethings have never worn panty hose at all.

If you don’t favor reading the entire column, then do scan the memo from the President of a Kansas Credit Union updating that company’s Dress Code to cover this specific issue. And while we don’t favor anyone getting their whiskers in a wad, somewhere in the 8 (yes, can you imagine eight?) pages of intense, provocative, at times extremely emotional comments! Little did we know this one gets the blue blood in the veins to moving, sometimes outright boiling! Oh my!

Coincidentally, FashionJunkie also has a recent column on the topic, much shorter than the Journal story, perhaps a bit pithier.

“In my humble opinion, wearing nude hose – especially during summer months, is one of the worst fashion crimes you can commit.”

It is in the reading of the FashionJunkie column we discovered we had committed a crime; worse, we are probably more like a hardened criminal. We ask only that when they haul us off to prison we be allowed to take this month’s T&C (Town & Country) and Vanity Fair to the clink with us, ‘kay? More importantly, do they have special quarters for Royalty? What about the qaulity of the help?

In lighter news some may recall the Mad for Plaid portion of our post from last Friday; among many lovely items featured in a montage were a stunning Shoshanna Bandeau Bikini Top and plaid Bow Brief. Those fortunate enough to wear Shoshanna swimwear before know tops and bottoms are always sold separately (you can always spot the mind of a Nightingale alum at work – we love this entire line) so the resulting fit is as nature intended: perfect. The links we used connected to ShopBop, an outstanding retailer that The Princess adores. However. We have standards. And when it comes to your pocketbook, well… there are few retailers we double-dare-adore more than Nordstrom, especially when they have those same Shoshanna swim separates at vastly superior price points. Click here if you ‘heart’ the top. (Are we becoming hip, slick and cool with our lingo?)

Shoshanna Madras Top at Nordstrom Shosahanna Bikini Madras Bottom at Nordstrom

And here for the bottom. And here for a link to Nordstrom’s current swimsuit SALE inventory for Women. The markdowns are equally healthy for Men, Young Men, Brass Plum and Children. BTW, have you noticed our new affectation (as if we need more), of using all CAPS when typing the word SALE? How bad is this on the Annoyance-o-Meter? Peaking in the Red Zone, or merely a pest? Okay, next on our hit parade:

J CRew Sale GIF 6/16/08

It now seems every time we manage to navigate the path to our electronic inbox our good friends at J Crew have a new and different SALE offering. So if you still need just a skosh more for the initiation fee at the Club, or you don’t want to take out a second on the third (home-away-from-home, and trust us on this, you do not want to go down this road) here is one more way to save: spend $125 at J Crew and you receive 20% off your order! The ‘offer code’ is PRIVSALE. While neither the email nor the website specifically state this, it would appear this offer is applicable only to online sales as indicated by the presence of the ‘offer code.’ What is clear is that this is a “3 Day Only” sale, thus concluding Wednesday night at midnight by our math. But remember, we spent our career in TV precisely because we did not do math. At least not well. Let that serve as a warning. But don’t let a that offer keep you from enjoying what must be a more public offer:

J Crew Swim Sale June 16, 2008

Actually, J Crew could be moving right up there alongside Brooks Brothers in consistent use of email marketing, come to think about it. And yes, Brooks did send a new offer this week, basically amounting to “Cheap Shoes for All!” TP apologizes for using that hideous word, but other word applies? Hello?

Brooks Bros Week of 6/16

And on this note we conclude the written portion of today’s post. We hope to do better tomorrow. Following are a few visual offerings enhanced by a bit of input from the Buffalo News.

Tim Russert at Luke\'s 1st Birthday

Luke, Tim & Big Russ at Bisons Game

Buffalo News Front Page 6/14/08

From The Buffalo News:

When Russert’s father, Timothy J. Russert Sr., who was immortalized in “Big Russ/Father and Son: Lesson of Life,” learned his famous broadcasting son had died, the 83-year-old retired truck driver broke down in tears. His son’s death came at an especially heartbreaking time — two days before Father’s Day.

He was in the Orchard Park assisted living facility, where his son had helped him to move just a week ago.

“Big Russ knows his son died. He’s crying right now,” said Joseph Passafiume, the son of Jean Passafiume, Big Russ’ companion for three decades.
