Your Vote is Needed, and Lilly Pulitzer Warehouse Sale Details

Hello-Hello Dollfaces!

We have a few housekeeping issues to handle today, beginning with a giant “Thank You” to the coolest coxswain on water, Miss Queen Bee Swain. We were fortunate enough to win her Birthday Blog Giveaway, and just look at all the goodies we received!

Thank You Miss Queen Bee!

The Giveaway included a massive amount of Origins (not that one can ever have too much!): their body souffle, bubble bath, body scrub and soap, all in Ginger.  Yum.  The Giveaway also came with a Plum Sykes book that surprisingly, we haven’t yet read: The Debutante Divorcee.

Then we congratulate the always-tasteful Miss Janice, who is the big winner of Muffy Martini’s Giveaway! Miss Janice won the Lilly Pulitzer Party Pack from our Lilly Stationery & Gift line, featuring loads of tableware in the Loco Patch pattern.

If ever there were someone suited to this, it is Miss Janice, of Etiquette with Miss Janice renown. You know who we mean, Social Graces… Southern Style, that Miss Janice. She absolutely adores Lilly and also knows how to throw a party like nobody’s business! (If any doubt remains, click here to see her Lilly-fied Luncheon post. You can even see a photo of the aforementioned Queen Bee Swain and many other bloggers, wearing their Lilly!)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

In other bloggage news, just as one contest ends another begins: The Southern Social has an excellent contest underway that requires your attention and your vote. You see, Miss Social requested wardrobe suggestions for a ‘First Date’ sort of outfit, asking only that contributors put together the outfits using Polyvore, a most delicious online service/tool/creative assistant.

The suggested collages were outstanding, including this one from Beaufort Belle, offering an elegantly understated look accented by a Tiffany ring and Marc Jacobs clutch.

ENTRY: Beaufort Belle

I Pick Pretty is also in on the fun, with an excellent collection centered around a stunningly simple dress by Banana Republic with accessories by J. Crew and BCBGMaxAzria.

ENTRY: Legally Blonde Mel

The always on-trend Mrs. Newlywed created this sensational look using a J. Crew dress and Lilly Pulitzer sandals, along with jewelry by David Yurman.

This fab collection is from the Chic Runner, featuring an Alexander McQueen clutch we have long found to be fabulous.

And the Prep-E Girl found an outstanding way to incorporate seersucker into her group, with the Dooney & Bourke Cindy Tote.

ENTRY: Prep-E Girl

Pop on over and visit Miss Social to cast your vote for best outfit; the winner receives their pick of a Lilly Pulitzer candle or a year’s magazine subscription! As an aside, we have to admit that playing in Polyvore definitely made this one of the most intriguing online contests we’ve had the pleasure of entering!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We have two other very quick sale notes of a preppy sort, the next being Kate Spade.

The retailer is offering 25% off a selection of goods along with complimentary shipping, now through May 1oth.

Also hitting our electronic in-bin, this note from J. Crew with news of their “long awaited sale”. Not to be negative about any savings at any decent prep purveyors, but “long awaited..?” We think not, as Crew just finished a recent “Take an additional…”, you know the drill. Proceed accordingly. (Heh-heh.)

We’re once again about to race out the door, we hope everyone has a completely splendid afternoon and evening!

Tiffany Makes a Move, Sales & Savings of a Prepalicious Sort

Hello-Hello and Happy Friday dolls, yippee!

It is a simply splendid day here at the Prepatorium, so let’s dive right into things! (The sooner we finish the sooner you-know-who can scoot outside!)

We want to do a quick reminder about the Lilly Pulitzer sale at RueLaLa; things sell out so quickly at these sites it is best to mention it right off the top so anyone interested in adding to their walk-in can head in that direction.

RueLaLa is one of those ‘invite only’ online sale sites that have sprung up recently. If you aren’t yet a member, use the special Princess code to join: go to RueLaLa.com, at the prompt select “Invited by a Member” and then enter this as the email address to get in: VIP@ruelala.com.

Now, Lilly isn’t the only sale at RueLaLa, they are also doing CC Skye.

Both sales end Saturday night.

Next, word on some interesting moves by upscale retailers, Tiffany & Henri Bendel. Let’s start with the store-we-once-adored,Tiffany. (Surely you remember this dreary tedious episode and yes, of course we continue wallowing in our snit.)

News came late yesterday that Tiffany is buying bankruptcy-challenged Lambertson Truex (see the middle of this post if seeking more details) from Samsonite. This could make perfect sense for both companies, as this story on the WWD site explains:

“Lambertson and Truex will explore the development of a collection of leather accessories for Tiffany & Co.”

Remember our posts last summer about these outstanding totes? (NOTE: We have linked to them as a courtesy but they are no longer available.)

Courtesy Tiffany.com

It makes perfect sense to us; there may well be many more pieces in this color.

As far as Bendel goes, they are going to stop selling clothing and shrink the 5th Avenue flagship store as today’s WWD reports:

“The Fifth Avenue flagship will be reduced in size from three to two selling floors, offering accessories, handbags, jewelry, gifts, beauty and fragrance…”

“There’s lots of iconography, like our [brown and white] stripes…

TRANSLATION: Probably more of this sort of thing.

Now mind you, TP has long been fond of Bendel’s iconic brown and white stripes, along with the Bendel Girl. We just don’t care to see them on our teapot every day, be it by Villeroy and Boch at Bendel or from Target.  So our guess is the company will roll out more logofied merchandise moving forward.

We do want to alert everyone there is a sale on some goods at Bendel, including the Henri Bendel Mini Notebooks. (We confess to a soft spot for these, in previous years they have made a great gift.)

They are fun because of their names: Bliss List, Me, Me, Me, Thin, Rich, and Fabulous, and Worth Waiting For. Previously selling at $25, the notebooks are now $12.50.

Perhaps if we hold hands and sing Kumbaya our fears about raging attacks of Logophobia will prove to be unfounded. What do you think?

++++++++++++++++++++++++

Yesterday’s post talked about what we refer to as something of a ‘preppy trifecta':significant sales at Brooks Brothers, J. Crew and Polo Ralph Lauren.  We neglected to mention the obvious:

Brooks Brothers Friends and Family event begins Saturday, providing a 30% discount on merchandise, ending Monday, May 11. Use promo code FRIEND79 or FRIEND 81 to receive the discount, or go to BrooksBrothers.com/friends.  By the way, if in need of the code to receive an additional 20% of sale merchandise at J. Crew, use promo code EXTRA20 at checkout.

++++++++++++++++++++++++

In other Sales & Savings news, Target has reduced prices on the Alexander McQueen collection, prices many felt were too high from the outset.

Additionally the always awesome Third Coast Preppy is clearly back in the swing of things after bringing an exquisite new preppy into the world, her list of preppy savings and sales can only be referred to by one word – Prepalicious!

++++++++++++++++++++++++

We also have a few briefs on several stars of that kinda’-sorta’-preppy Gossip Girl, starting with news that actresses Blake Lively and Taylor Momsen both made People magazine’s 100 Most Beautiful People list.

PHOTOS: People Magazine, WENN

And another star of the hit TV show has landed another magazine cover; Leighton Meester can be seen fronting this month’s issue of Cosmopolitan.

++++++++++++++++++++++++

We close with a Pretty in Pink.

A Princess customer needed token gifts to use as favors at a shower; she ordered 40 of these when she learned the custom key fobs are only $5 each.

Apologies for the shameless self-promotion, we just thought the fobs were such a cute idea and more-than-practical.  (They’re far more vibrant than TP’s photo conveys, Francesco Scavullo we are not.)

On that note, we do hope everyone has a delightful weekend filled with fun and food for the spirit!

Pink & Green Shoes that are TDF, Sales of a Preptastic Kind!

Hello-Hello and Happy Day!

We are once again beset by a malady known as spring fever, so let’s talk about some pink & green shoes, shall we?!

The first pair is the Gola Ignite flats, available at Zappos.

Gola Ignite at Zappos.com

Also at Zappos, these Bedhead Ballet Flats

Bluefly offers these patent ‘Heaven’ boatstitch loafers from Tod’s.

Tod’s Loafer at Bluefly.com

We must be candid dolls, the pink is looking a little neon for us….yes?  We just discovered the Betsyville Baylee Flat, available in several different colorways.

Another strong point for the Baylee, its fiscally friendly price, $62 at Shoes.com.  There are many other pair from Betseyville with a similar look, all with the nautical little button. These are the Brinda Sandals in pink patent.

And on the right in always classic black & white patent, the Blair sandals from Betseyville.

A Princess post on flats couldn’t possibly be complete without at least one pair from Bettye Mueller, like these Madras Frame flats, now almost 50% less than their original price at Endless.com

Bettye Mueller

And then we have a classic, Prada’s petal patent cap-toe ballerina flats.

Prada

That’s it for now. (But you just know we’ll be back with more! They are irresistible!)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We’re a little late to the party with this, but Bobbi Brown has an incredible offer on the website right now:

A 25% discount on any cosmetic is fairly unusual, let alone on the entire line!  But the offer ends tonight at midnight, so fly over there now if interested!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Also, Sak’s is promoting their sale:

As is Banana Republic:

J. Crew is offering an Extra 20% off their Sale prices.  Use promo code EXTRA20 at checkout to receive the additional discount.

On that note, we now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

(Silly Princess.)

Shoshanna Sneak Peek, Sales of a Preptastic Sort!

Hello-Hello and happy almost-weekend to everyone! We are simply awash in the bright and beautiful day here in the Great Midwest!

We are all about apparel and accessories of a springy nature today, hopefully that is in keeping with your frame of mind! Earlier this week we mentioned the Shoshanna Trunk Show at Saks next Thursday; sadly, TP will not be popping in. We shall be trapped like a rat working spending our day lolling about the Palace. However, thanks to the good folks at Shoshanna, we’ll help everyone who can’t go feel like they were there. Sort of. In an abstract, far away manner of speaking.

As we did not (and are not) scooting out of town to a warmer spot this winter, just looking at clothing designed for warmer temps does our heart good.

Our thanks to Lindsey for the photos.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Remember our post about the next design collaboration Target is doing, this one with designer Tracy Feith?  The always-on-top-of-things-Bust has shared some photos of the Collection, due in stores and online in mid-May.

The dress above is to retail at $29.99, the one below at$44.99.

The title for the post referenced the remarkable number of sales and clearances; the notion of sharing some with readers had merit, so we start with Brooks Brothers.

While certainly not what anyone would mistake for a “screaming deal,” at least not when contrasted with recent pricing, there are savings in every department. In honor of Nautical by Nature, we show the Country Club Canvas Sailboat Tote in navy dotted with nautical flags.

At $88, it may not represent what most would term a bargain, but if you purchase one tote, a second tote can be had at %50 off that price. For much better buys, click on over to the clearance section for some fabulous markdowns on shoes, boots, shirts and just about everything else.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Next on our hit parade, J. Crew, still offering a significant amount of merchandise in their Final Sale sections and on line.  Additionally, select women’s shorts are 20% off, select women’s women’s swimwear is up to 25% off, and there is up to 30% off select women’s tees.  Our favorite? The Clea Ballet Flat, now$49.99.

A cautionary note on these: we did not see a broad selection of sizes, so proceed accordingly.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Also offering substantial markdowns, Banana Republic.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Talbots is taking larger markdowns than normal at this time of year with their One Sweet Sale promotion.  These basic pumps are $34.99, down from $118.

Don’t forget to peek at the retailer’s Last Chance Clearance section of the website.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Polo Ralph Lauren is offering an additional 20% off sale prices on ‘select items’ for a ‘limited time’. The Carole Taffeta Dress is $229, from $598.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Combining two topics, a SOTT (Sign Of The Times) and a sale, we move to upscale accessories house Lambertson Truex.  The company has filed bankruptcy, and closed their shops in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.  Frankly, we enjoyed the Las Vegas store, and we are sorry to see it closed. On up note, efforts will be made to keep the website in operation.

The Large Margo minaudière is now offered at $345; the original pricepoint was $1145.

While most bags are not for us, we simply liked the idea of the shop being there for us to pop into when we were on the road. Selfish? Yes. An unusual sentiment? Doubtful.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Our final preptastic mention for the day comes via the wonderful Just Madras, where there are some fabulous new treats as well as outstanding bargains! The Newport Clutch is darling, and at only $15, too good to pass up!

Just Madras Newport Clutch

The Pink/Green Patchwork Small Bucket is easy on the eyes as well as the pocketbook!

And because we so adore all things pink, and think so highly of Isaac Mizrahi, today’s Pretty in Pink features one of his last designs for Target, the Herringbone Party Coat in “Pink Glow” that reverses to black. We have been fond of that colorway name for months, pink gloooooowww.

Target.com

And talk about a price that is friendly from a fiscal responsibility perspective, the coat is on sale for a mere $22.49 – the original selling price was $89.99. And it appears to be available in all sizes, amazing this late in the season. Besides, it really is a collector’s item in a sense, from Mr. Mizrahi’s final collection at the retailer before his departure to run Liz Claiborne.

If that isn’t pink enough, perhaps the 23″ pink LCD TV will work:

Target.com

Have we shown this before dolls? We hope not, but if so, it probably merits a second look. How often do we see pink televisions?

On that cheery note, enjoy a splendid weekend!

This is Scary, Saks Shipping Offer, More J. Crew Problems, Suri Cruise is ‘Best’

Hello-Hello from Snow Central!

The Princess is trapped, unable to make her flight to Denver, thanks to a foot of snow in The Great Midwest. Harrumph.

It may be considered good news or not-such-good news depending on one’s perspective, but the weather does allow us to do a fresh post.  We start with an event creating a knot in the stomach and an awful sense of foreboding: the jewelry sale at Saks Fifth Avenue.  We thank the Madison Avenue Spy for the tip on this one. The sale includes this Judith Ripka Pavé Diamond Enhancer:

Judith Ripka, Saks Fifth Avenue

Many may be stupefied at TP’s negative anxiety about a sale. At Saks. But many also know upscale department stores like Saks, Bergdorf’s, Neiman’s, etc., do not have jewelry sales. Not. On. Fine. Jewelry.

Not on David Yurman.

David Yurman at Saks

Or Ippolita.

Ippolita Ring at Saks

If a store is financially healthy it would never put an Ippolita 18k Gold Two-Diamond Ring on sale. Would. Not. Happen.

BTW, Saks is doing complimentary free shipping on all orders, as well as offering a gift box and their red ribbon at no charge. Seriously. Just use PROMO code SFAGIFT at checkout.  If you missed yesterday’s post ,it contains a goodly amount of sale and promo code information.

We are off to stir up a Prozac cocktail. A pitcher full.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Another Gossip Girl star has landed a Teen Vogue cover. Leighton Meester is showcased in the February 2009 issue.

We thought you might enjoy her comment on headbands:

“I don’t wear headbands, ever.”

Teen Vogue February 2009

In March co-star Blake Lively graced the magazine’s cover.

Teen Vogue Blake Lively

In January’s Vogue Ms. Lively is named to a list of the 10 Best-Dressed Women; while the print version of the magazine directs you to the Vogue.com website for more on this (and other stories), we cannot locate anything on the site about this story.

Back to Teen Vogue, the cover promotes “The Punky Preppy Mix.” Hhhmmmm. Just this fall the magazine listed the Top 22 Preppy Essentials, including items from many of the standard stores like Lacoste, J. Crew, and Smythson, as well as newer players: Tory Burch, American Eagle Outfitters, Tommy Hilfiger and others.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Speaking of J. Crew... (you know where this is going), we continue to receive email about technical issues and problems with J. Crew’s online store.

This story in Thursday’s Storefront Talkback confirms the continued problems:

“Having suffered outages during Cyber Monday, J.Crew again became unavailable—to at least some prospective customers—for an extended period on Wednesday (Dec. 17). “

The subhead on the article reads “‘Tis the Season to be Jolly, Unless You’re in Charge of J. Crew’s Web site.” Ouch.  The retailer is awarded a lump of coal:

“Over at J.Crew, though, no apologies were offered. For those who know the tortured history of J.Crew and its site launch this summer, perhaps avoiding an apology was wise. This time, the site advised visitors to “stay tuned” and added that “even the best sites aren’t perfect.”

True. But as far as uptime goes, it’s clear that some sites are less perfect than others.”

Double ouch.  While management may be frustrated, customers always have choices, as the fabulous Mrs. Newlywed makes clear in yesterday’s comment:

“…I tried to place an order today for a very much unneeded sweater. The site wouldn’t let me place the order.

So, because after I realized it wasn’t working I didn’t actually NEED the sweater I won’t buy it at all  That is $70.00 they won’t get.

The phone line wasn’t working either.

tisk tisk on J.Crew”

The experience shared by another favorite, Lisa at Very Busy Mom with 4, ended on a more positive note:

“After three calls, I finally got my Crewcuts stuff, and they ended up Fed-exing it. I think they are still having issues–their site is moving very slow! Still love my stuff though.”

Frankly, we remain more than a little stunned the problems are not yet rectified.  For those willing to risk it, this particular sale continues through tonight, offering an additional 20% off with complimentary shipping for orders totaling more than $150; the promo code is MERRY.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Best & Company

At Best and Company the discounts are also deeper, making the childrens’ designer duds irresistable.  The Girl’s Cashmere Hoodie is only $35.90, discounted from an original $158 selling price.

Best & Company

The striped sweater is also available in Pink & White; both colorways appear to be available in a broad size range. According to the JustJared site, Suri Cruise is wearing Best’s Scallop Placket coat in this picture with her mother, actress Katie Holmes.

If in need of a darling wool coat in winter white, Best still has this one in a few sizes, now 50% off its $398 price.

We leave you with the ever-so-snuggly Pink Cable Cardigan, on sale at J. McLaughlin.

J. McLaughlin

An absolutely divine store, J. McLaughlin is also in the midst of a wonderful sale.

Don’t forget to enter our final Giveaway of the year, by leaving a question for The Princess Consort.  Here is a portion of a comment from the Fashion Herald and part of TC’s answer:

“Dear Princess Consort Sir, how does one stop one’s husband from stealing the covers at night? Please help, it’s getting really cold!”

“My dear freezing Fashion Herald – I understand your concern about your husband and his proclivity for stealing the bed covers. In the long term this will cease to be a problem because of global warming. However, we have an immediate situation that demands our complete attention. I will assume your husband has a ______________”

To read what it is TPC assumes Mr. Fashion Herald has, just click here & scroll down through the comments.

We are off to frolic in the snow! Happy day to everyone!
