Lilly Pulitzer Fall/Holiday 2009 Stationery & Gifts Preview

Hello-Hello, and happy Thursday!

Has anyone melted into a little puddle with the high temps and almost-as-high humidity? Does everyone have regional phrases when it gets like this? A classic in The Great Midwest is rather coarse, but we’re claiming a pickled brain today so here it is: “It’s not the heat, it’s the stupidity.” What are some of the local comments you are fond of when meteorological circumstances hit these extremes?

Next… we do a 180-degree turn to engage in the publication of this completely commercial message from the Prepatorium.

Yes, despite the weather outside, it is time for TP to think fall and winter and holidaze holidays! Believe it or not, we shall soon be getting new Lilly Pulitzer Stationery and Gift merchandise into the shoppe.

PreppyPrincess.com

Above, Fa La Lilly and Berry, the new gift wrap patterns. There are also two different ornament sets, along with Fireplace Matches in two patterns.

The new Note Card sets are outstanding, we especially love the updated Dress Notecard designs. (BTW, our stock of Dress Notecards is down to 8 or 9, and that’s it, the end, as a new group of shift dress patterns is being introduced.)

PreppyPrincess.com

While we don’t yet have the images, there are also several patterns of Imprintable Holiday Cards that we think you will find irresistible.

New for the Collection? Thermal mugs, something we desperately need here at the Prepatorium. (Not that anyone ever knocks anything over. On the desk. Or the Keyboard.)

Those who bake will love the next addition to the Lilly line: cookie cutters.

We are already planning on these as the ideal gift for a number of friends.

Now, regular readers are aware of our annual struggle, always involving two irreconcilable beliefs:

  1. The entire merchandising and marketing of the season is out of control, a horrid practice that has moved so far beyond commercial tackiness it defies description;
  2. The petulant capitalist query: “Why are they not doing a better job executing holiday marketing strategies?”

Clearly we never get these dueling concerns in sync. We never will. But as a merchant (ooooh, that has such a rugged, un-Princess-like sound, doesn’t it?) it would be deceitful to say we don’t enjoy sharing new things with everyone, as we do. We find it an utterly delightful way of spending time.

Perfect for any season IOHO, having a little Lilly on hand for the cocktail hour is a plus, no matter what we’re celebrating!

Possibly the item we have been hoping for the most….? A Lilly Pulitzer  Calendar! Yes, we are more-than-gaga for the 2010 Wall Calendar seen below right….

Not to mention the desktop Calendars we’ll soon have available, they are absolutely wonderful as well; there are also Planning Agendas in both standard and pocket sizes.

Knowing how popular the Lilly Activity Book for Minnies is, we expect the paper dolls (below left) to also be in high demand.

And did you see the Magnet Board on the right in the picture above? We get so many requests for these, we’re ecstatic to see them!

Ordering for the new Collection will be done much as we did the initial Lilly launch: we will start taking pre-orders on July 8th, possibly sooner if at all possible. A pre-order means that once we receive our shipment of goodies from the Lilly folks, your merchandise is shipped first.  You are not charged *until* your order is filled, it is rather akin to reserving one’s items. We plan on sending out the first shipments to our customers at the very end of July, or the first week in August.

Another way to stay on top of all things Lilly here at the Palace, sign up for our Lilly Pulitzer email list at Preppy Princess. (Scroll down and it is on the bottom of the righthand column.) Not to worry about privacy if one should elect to sign up, we never (never, ever) give anyone your information, we are what you might call hypersensitive to that sort of thing.

This in no way covers the gamut of new products for the line, nor does it include the *new* line of paper goods we are adding to the mix later this week or early next week. We’ll be a horrid little human, merely saying everything has a Nantucket theme!

Thanks for popping in dollfaces, we do love spending time with you! Have a simply terrific afternoon and evening!

Polo Ralph Lauren Wimbledon Collection, New J. Crew Accessories Shop

Hello-Hello everyone!

Did you know it is Milan Fashion Week? As in menswear and accessories for Spring/Summer 2010. While the temptation is to generally flip the ‘ignore’ switch, there are times we stumble upon fascinating newsbites and/or styles emanating from the event.

Guess who showed up for the Giorgio Armani show?

PHOTO: Vittorio Zunino Celotto/Getty

Yes, one of the Gossip Guys, Chace Crawford.  (This probably means he wasn’t watching NYC Prep.)

Gossip Girl fans awaiting the release of the show’s second season on DVD now have a date: August 18.

Suggested retail for Gossip Girl: The Complete Second Season is $59.98, but it may be pre-ordered now at Amazon for $38.99.

Speaking of idle gossip that serves no purpose whatsoever Mr. Crawford, WWD has an interesting story on what magazine covers are selling the best, more specifically the People Hottest Bachelor cover discussed in this space yesterday…

Courtesy People

Or this issue of In Touch Weekly

…featuring Kate Gosselin of that hideous the Jon & Kate Plus 8 show; we admit ignorance here as neither TP or The Consort have viewed so much as one frame of video from this show.  (We do have a major ‘Help us Understand‘ question related to Ms. Gosselin’s hair style…? Is there some fundamental fact or background story we have missed on this topic?)

It may come as a surprise to learn this is not a pulication with which we are familiar; we are told one may see copies of the magazine when in line at the market.  Indeed.

To get to the point, apparently Mr. Crawford isn’t exactly the hottest-selling cover for People, especially when contrasted with the misfortunes of the Gosselin family.

“Editors at competing celebrity magazines questioned whether the 23-year-old television star was recognizable enough for People’s audience, or if they should have gone with a bigger name. Past “Bachelors” include Matthew McConaughey in 2007 and “American Idol” winner Taylor Hicks in 2006. Both issues sold 1.6 million copies each.”

Oh.

We’ll quickly share an item that is what we generally refer to as ‘a little stale,’ meaning it is recent, but not anything of the “this just in” ilk.  (Although how frequently do we really encounter ‘breaking preppy news,” really, who are we kidding?)

At any rate, preppy retailer J. Crew has just opened their first accessories store in SoHo.

PHOTO: Thomas Iannaccone/WWD

Described as a standalone shop, the store actually leads right into the J. Crew women’s store. Crew CEO Mickey Drexler describes the new store’s customers to Women’s Wear Daily in this story:

“It’s the same customers shopping the designer stores.” They’re looking to spend less for products with style and of similar quality, he added.

Those spending time in the Hamptons will be pleased to know the retailer’s plans include an accessories shop-within-a-shop for its East Hampton store.

Enjoy the afternoon!

Help Me Understand, Lilly Pulitzer Calling Cards & Address Labels

Hello-Hello everyone! How are we all doing now that we’re approaching midweek?

Today we really aren’t covering much of anything one might consider preppy. Not really. Not unless one considers our first topic borderline preppish, only because the subject is affiliated with a certain faux-prep school television show we continually natter on about.

Okay now.  Not to sound like a crankenstein (translation: stand by for complaints peaking the Crank-o-Meter in the red zone, honestly, what a whiner), but upon seeing photos of Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester in this… ah, wearing this… well, we are clearly lacking nouns by which one could refer to such a… umm, such a garment. How’s that?

Before seeing the photos most relevant to our decision that this episode be officially classified as a “Help Me Understand,” we want to share a few other images to make the point that we find the actress to be absolutely beautiful.  And we thought Ms. Leighton looked stunning.

From the neck up.

And perhaps even from the side… kind of, sort of, maybe.

However, these first photos don’t actually reveal the depth and breadth lacking in said garment.

WARNING: The following photos are NSFW.

???

The Garment was worn to Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards; the photos prompted PTDD (Post Taumatic Dress Disorder) flashbacks, eerily reminiscent of the Blake Lively Romper Episode.

We recognize we’re not exactly the demo sought by the MTV pooh-bahs. Nor are we anything remotely resembling hip or slick or cool or stylish, but we didn’t think we had gone over to the dark side, you know, the dreaded old fuddy-duddy part of the planet.

Is it us, dolls? Our upbringing? Our age? We implore you: help us understand.

On a side note, we are ever-so-excited this morning because we finally learned what NSFW means! The Spousal Unit explained it once he collected himself after hearing TP trying to sort it out solo. A few guesses we actually thought were possibilities before crumbling and asking for assistance:

  • Not Safe for Women
  • No Situations for Work
  • No Sly Favors Wanted
  • National Sillies from Women (?)

Please don’t laugh until we’ve left the room, we already feel utterly uncool and clueless. Sigh.

In other fashion news, word today from Wal-Mart they will be carrying a new line just in time for back to school shopping. It will be created by…

teen superstar Miley Cyrus and Max Azria, perhaps best known for his BCBG line.  This news comes on the heels of yesterday’s announcement by the Disney Channel that Hannah Montana returns for Season 4 this fall.  In the photo above Ms. Cyrus is wearing pieces from the new collection.  From the Walmart snooze release news release:

“The line will arrive in all Walmart stores and on Walmart.com in early August, and includes tops, pants, graphic tees, shoes and accessories, all priced less than $20.”

In honor of today’s kickoff at the Lilly Pulitzer Warehouse Sale we’ll share one of this week’s best additions to the Princess Shoppe, the Lilly Labels and Calling Cards!

The calling cards are printed on thick card stock, very posh IOHO. There are so many fabulous designs it is impossible to select just one favorite!  We adore the navy blue and hot pink used in Cloud Nine, so much so we will dub it today’s Pretty in Pink.

But then, we’ve always been a little crazy for Loco Patch too. (Ahem, it would appear that Silly Princess somehow got out today.)

Lilly Pulitzer Loco Patch

And there are another twenty-plus divine designs on the site, there really aren’t any we don’t like. Decisions, decisions. Sigh.

Smiles dollfaces, we are way too far behind in our duties here at the Prepatarium, we must scramarama! Don’t forget to share your wisdom on The Garment issue, we have an expiring mind dying to know!

Please Tell the Princess What To Do

Hello everyone, and welcome to a frenzied Friday here at the Prepatorium!

TP is a tad crazed and dazed taking care of Princess business while simultaneously trying to collect her wits to scoot out of town…

While this is old news to those who follow us on Twitter, we may not have openly mentioned that we’re off to find new goodies at the Stationery Show.

This actually works out very well, as we are going to do a more-pictures-than-substance-post today, and it dovetails nicely with our desperate need to solicit your input, your wisdom, your exquisite good taste. Pourquoi ça? Because we need your insight and opinions on this topic: what lines or items would you like to see The Princess carry in the future?

We start with needlepoint pillows by a designer you know, very nicely done in 100% wool over cotton:

The pillow on the left is 12″ square and would retail for about $45-48, while the pillow on the right is larger at 20″ square; it would be $98-$105. You would like one on your sofa? Perhaps a gift for someone this holiday season? Or, “TP, tune in. There’s a recession out there and this is a little too high for our gift-giving budget right now.”

Next, needlepoint eyeglass cases; we would retail these in the $22-$25 range. A nice stocking stuff or MIL gift? Love it? Hate it? Almost worse, is it a yawn? (Remember, when it comes to your opinions, sharing is caring.)

Are silk and cotton embroidered pillows at in the $70-$90 range on your radar….? Or are there simply too many other possibilities out there? Or the house is already decorated, or more formal accents like these are not what you use, or…?

And finally with this group, the needlepoint coaster sets would run approximately $36.

A possibility you would consider for yourself or for a gift? The price is okay but the spouse doesn’t care for needlepoint coasters, or we use whatever coasters we bring home from the club (seriously, TP has lived with this phenomenon), or…? Or….?

We do need your wisdom on these, you can’t possibly hurt our feelings as these are merely ideas we are contemplating here at the Palace. And if feeling self-conscious about sharing personal taste, just leave your comments as ‘anonymous,’ and no one will be the wiser!

Not by any ‘notable’ designers but still fun, tell us what you think about the hooked pillows in 100% wool and cotton. The 14″ x 18″ lighthouse would sell for approximately $38-$40, and the 16″ square crab on the right about $48-$50.

Cute? Good gifts? Just so-so? Meh, pillows just aren’t my thing?

What things are we not carrying you would like to see us add? More totes? Lilly Pulitzer accessories, you know, the handbags and jewelry collections? More stationery and notepaper? More of the same or lines with lower or higher pricepoints?  More pillows, towels, or home accessories? More preppy pet items, or more/less belts and flip-flops?

Now, before flitting away without sharing your thoughts, just remember – Tilly’s future is hanging in the balance.

Tilly On Guard

As one can see, Miss Tilly doesn’t miss many meals.

And she does enjoy her regular trips to the spa:

A Day at the Spa

Not to mention her grooming; she prefers the students in the Veterinary Medicine School at the Large University handle her ‘special needs.’

"How Could You?!"

And her appreciation of fine apparel is well-documented.

"Does the Tailor make house calls?"

Fortunately, Scooter-the-Wonder-Cat has lower expectations.

A good set of shelves to hide out in when being pursued by the Much-Larger-Animal and an occasional meal keep Scooter happy.

And they both revel in some time stalking each other.

So do share your thoughts on Princess inventory.

They’re counting on you.

"Please tell Mommy & Daddy what you think…puh-leeze!"

Heh-heh-heh.

See you sometime next week, we hope everyone enjoys an utterly divine weekend!

Your Vote is Needed, and Lilly Pulitzer Warehouse Sale Details

Hello-Hello Dollfaces!

We have a few housekeeping issues to handle today, beginning with a giant “Thank You” to the coolest coxswain on water, Miss Queen Bee Swain. We were fortunate enough to win her Birthday Blog Giveaway, and just look at all the goodies we received!

Thank You Miss Queen Bee!

The Giveaway included a massive amount of Origins (not that one can ever have too much!): their body souffle, bubble bath, body scrub and soap, all in Ginger.  Yum.  The Giveaway also came with a Plum Sykes book that surprisingly, we haven’t yet read: The Debutante Divorcee.

Then we congratulate the always-tasteful Miss Janice, who is the big winner of Muffy Martini’s Giveaway! Miss Janice won the Lilly Pulitzer Party Pack from our Lilly Stationery & Gift line, featuring loads of tableware in the Loco Patch pattern.

If ever there were someone suited to this, it is Miss Janice, of Etiquette with Miss Janice renown. You know who we mean, Social Graces… Southern Style, that Miss Janice. She absolutely adores Lilly and also knows how to throw a party like nobody’s business! (If any doubt remains, click here to see her Lilly-fied Luncheon post. You can even see a photo of the aforementioned Queen Bee Swain and many other bloggers, wearing their Lilly!)

In other bloggage news, just as one contest ends another begins: The Southern Social has an excellent contest underway that requires your attention and your vote. You see, Miss Social requested wardrobe suggestions for a ‘First Date’ sort of outfit, asking only that contributors put together the outfits using Polyvore, a most delicious online service/tool/creative assistant.

The suggested collages were outstanding, including this one from Beaufort Belle, offering an elegantly understated look accented by a Tiffany ring and Marc Jacobs clutch.

ENTRY: Beaufort Belle

I Pick Pretty is also in on the fun, with an excellent collection centered around a stunningly simple dress by Banana Republic with accessories by J. Crew and BCBGMaxAzria.

ENTRY: Legally Blonde Mel

The always on-trend Mrs. Newlywed created this sensational look using a J. Crew dress and Lilly Pulitzer sandals, along with jewelry by David Yurman.

This fab collection is from the Chic Runner, featuring an Alexander McQueen clutch we have long found to be fabulous.

And the Prep-E Girl found an outstanding way to incorporate seersucker into her group, with the Dooney & Bourke Cindy Tote.

Pop on over and visit Miss Social to cast your vote for best outfit; the winner receives their pick of a Lilly Pulitzer candle or a year’s magazine subscription! As an aside, we have to admit that playing in Polyvore definitely made this one of the most intriguing online contests we’ve had the pleasure of entering!

(Heh-heh.)
