Hello-Hello, and welcome to the middle of a busy week here at The Prepatorium, where talk has somehow turned to Halloween. Now, now, now, there’s no cause for alarm, it’s not under the heading of Something That. Must. Be. Dealt. With. Now. Rather, it’s more in the vein of some idle chit-chat in the course of the day.
With apologies to our pals on Twitter for the repetition, here’s what started it all.
Yes, that is the one and only Martha Stewart on the front of this year’s Halloween magazine. In the lower right-hand corner it says, “Introducing our Fairy GrandMartha“.
The website showcases Ms. Stewart in a variety of costumes she has worn in the magazine and/or on the Martha Stewart Show; more from MarthaStewart.com:
Over the years, Martha has both spooked and delighted audiences and readers with her creative Halloween costumes. Which one do you find most appealing — or appalling?
Behold, Martha as Medusa and as the Glampire.
A spot of background from the website:
- “Medusa, the Greek monster whose gaze could turn people into stone, was Martha’s costume of choice for season 4 in 2008.”
- “Martha transformed into a creepy Glampire for the “Bad Things” cover of the 2007 Halloween issue and season 3 of the show.”
In 2006 Ms. Stewart was a “purr-fectly fabulous cat costume to the black-cat-themed Halloween show in Season 2 of “The Martha Stewart Show”.
Just one more, Ms. Stewart as a Black Widow.
Dressed as a Black Widow for the cover of the 2000 Halloween issue, Martha shows Halloween makeup at its most glamorous and spine-tingling. Her look, achieved with makeup techniques and prosthetic features, was topped off with a swarm of spiders and a set of menacing black nails.
Each costume is accompanied by a tutorial for re-creating the makeup used for each look. Click here to see all of Martha Stewart’s costumes.
The other item that caught my eye today:
That, cherished readers, is a gold-plated crown set with Swarovski crystals. A $4150 crown.
It is very similar to one worn by Katy Perry to this year’s Met Gala. More from the product description:
Dolce & Gabbana’s spectacular Fall ’13 show was an ode to Italian opulence. Ornamented with sparkling Swarovski crystals and floral glass mosaics, this intricate gold-plated filigree crown is truly special. Mirror the runway styling and wear yours with a neat updo and statement earrings.
This isn’t something I discovered on my own, it was actually an item HuffPo covered:
Yes, you read that correctly. Dolce & Gabbana’s gold-plated Swarovski crystal crown, retailing on Net-A-Porter.com for $4,150, has completely sold out. A bright red notice below the item reads, “UNFORTUNATELY THIS ITEM HAS SOLD OUT. ADD IT TO YOUR WISH LIST AND WE WILL TELL YOU IF MORE STOCK BECOMES AVAILABLE.”
Which leaves us scratching our poor, uncrowned heads — who bought it? Suri Cruise for a school play? Anna Dello Russo, updating her fall wardrobe? Katy Perry, in case she needed an extra for next year’s Met Gala?
My question precisely. Who wears one of these?
Today’s final item involves the high school senior who writes The Total Prepster blog; she was generous enough to gift yours truly with a “Sunshine Award,” a lovely thing indeed. (Albeit it something we stopped participating in years ago.) I thought I would jump in and do an abbreviated version of the requirements. Here are the rules:
